The phrase “GOOD MORGEN AYOL” is a multilingual banner made from green textile materials collected from the Schweinfurt region, known for its distinctive Schweinfurter green. The text, “GOOD MORGEN AYOL,” is assembled with small teddy bears and sewn onto the fabric with the active participation of individuals in Marktplatz Schweinfurt. Embracing the multilingual expression embodies the challenges and beauty of living together. Kavachi invites all participants to contribute by bringing their green textile materials to the sewing performance. Together, these materials create a captivating landscape portraying forests, mountains, rivers, and woods. In addition, the term “Ayol” is a Turkish vocative word commonly used by women and LGBTQ individuals.
The saying “Good Morning” is usually used as a typical greeting, but it can also be used ironically. For instance, you might use it when someone does the right thing after a long period or when someone finally resigns after being in a leadership position for a long time. In these cases, you might jokingly say, “Good morning – you’re finally awake.” What does a queer way of expression mean? How is it used, and how is it perceived? These are broad questions that delve into various areas. The sewing action organized by Kavachi serves as a platform for meaningful discussions revolving around issues related to queerness and language. It promotes transparency and provides a communal space for interactions. Additionally, it aims to shed light on the historical significance of forests, woodlands, and secluded areas as meeting points for gay men, which have emerged as poignant symbols of queer resistance and safe spaces.
