My Bird Is Singing
Fine art print , 42 x 29,7 cm, taken in 2011, mixed media on paper 42 x 29,7 cm, 2017, Kavachi © 2017.
The work "My Bird Is Singing" is based on the artist's childhood memory. The question "Is Your Bird Singing?" is an ironic question, which means: "are you getting an erection?”. It was asked to the artist many times by his family partners or by his adult friends when he was still a child close to puberty. Birds can be associated with a penis in Anatolia. This work is not only about an erected penis, but it is about coming out, family issues and a childhood memory.
Text on the drawing; "When I was a child, my family and relatives were asking me that "is your bird singing" in front of all people. First I didn't know what it meant. But they were pointing my small baby dick. I was too shy that I never answered the question. Finally, I can SAY YES, "My Bird is singing"
