My Grandmother Is Collecting Scarves as a Gift for the Woman I Might Marry One Day
Installation view, exhibition "Immer Ärger mit den Großeltern / The Trouble With Grandparents" Kunsthaus Dresden DE 2018, © Kavachi. The installation consists of 6 oil paintings on canvas 25 cm x 25 cm, wooden letters 14 cm x 310 cm, 20 scarves in the different size and embroideries dismantled from scarves, 2 channel videos, a photo acrylic glass, 18 cm x 25 cm. The installation is based on the performance "My Grandmother Is Collecting Scarves as a Gift for the Woman I Might Marry One Day" which was performed in the exhibition "Desintegriert Euch! / De-Integrate Yourselves!" 3. Berliner Herbstsalon, Kronprinzenpalais, Berlin in 2017. During the performance, he removes the embroideries from the scarves which his grandmother collected as a gift for his future wife. At the later stage in his studio, he painted similar patterns from scarves on canvas and he restitched the embroideries removed from scarves on the edge of canvas which was for him a way of finding new meaning for the collected scarves. Although these scarves don't reach the traditional meaning or will never be given to the imagine addressee, Kavachi sought to integrate the traditional moral values and wishes of his grandmother into his own life, thus redeeming them in a different manner. |
